Color dinner party
I’ve been wanting to do this idea for a while and thanks to the help of many friends was able to actually host a color potluck picnic party the other evening! The basic concept of a color potluck is to have everyone who’s attending pick a color, dress solely in that shade, and bring a dish to match! Thankfully the weather was nice enough to host the party outside for a giant potluck picnic.
I sent out a Google docs invite (easier for people to RSVP to with different phone providers) with a tentative date/location and list of colors and ideas for people to sign up to! I requested only 3-4 people per color to help spread out the rainbow and asked people to add dietary restrictions if they wanted to. I believe we ended up with an entirely vegetarian setup with many vegan and GF options as well which was wonderful.
While I stuck with the basic shades, feel free to get creative and even go very niche with the colors (maroon, salmon, indigo, etc) there’s some suggestions for each color below!
Red: bruschetta (tomatoes); red wine, raspberry lemon bars, pico de gallo, strawberries, red peppers, curry, tomato soup, apples
Orange:orange Peppers, hummus, sweet potatoes, oranges
Yellow: pineapple, corn salad, lemon meringue, yellow fruit salad, cheese, pasta, lemonade
Green: fancy pesto / Mediterranean pasta salad, kale salad, any salad, cucumbers, guacamole, etc
Blue: ambrosia salad, blueberry jam, fancy drinks, water
Indigo: blueberry crumb cake
Purple: mini blackberry pies, grapes, ube, cabbage, sauerkraut, kimchi
Pink: rose, pickled onions, radishes, beets
White: white wine, cheese and crackers, rice, potatoes
Brown: brownies, chocolate pie, bread , chocolate anything
Black: squid ink pasta, chocolate cookies, sesame seed dishes
So much fun would highly recommend!
