Listen to the Forest
Shhh little one...
Talk not of superficial things
What goes on in wires and tiny screens
Linger not in past sorrows or future worries
Stay present with the gift of life
Look up and down and all around
At the wonderful world surrounding you
Wander far and wander wide
For there are many things that hide
Beneath the protection of the trees
Peaking out between the leaves
Shhh my darling...
Listen closely as the forest speaks
In humming insects whistling close
Gentle winds whispering by
Vibrant wildflowers blooming brilliantly
And curious creatures scattered about
Small and large it matters naught
For all hold something that can be taught
Wisdom in the ways of the earth
All things have their worth
Shhh dear one....
There is much to be done
Time spent working in the garden
Raising up bridges over creeks
Dancing among the mushrooms
Relaxing under a tree
Do not worry so much
About what is out of touch
Life is full of uncertainty
Of that I can speak with certainty
Shhh my friend...
Listen to what the forest says
It may not always be clear
But the world spins round
Birds fly up and down
And though darkness may fall
Dawn will come again
With the sun heralding warmth and hope
Listen closely as the forest speaks
From the valleys to the mountain peaks
Follow your heart and trust your feet
At every crossroad that you meet
And you will survive this journey.
