sand in my hair
Vacations are so wonderful and weird— it’s as if your regular life stops for a week and you can just disappear into the woods or the mountains or the ocean and breathe—you can forget about all the responsibilities and problems, conversations and complications back home. Going from -3F in Burlington to 80F in St. John, swapping white ice for white sands and pine trees for palms, squirrels for hermit crabs, and coats for swimsuits…it feels like a fever dream and I keep waiting to wake up. I know once I board the plane back home this week will seem even more unreal, but for now I am so grateful to have loverly adventurous friends, for the heat of the sun on my skin, the salt in my hair, and all the sand everywhere.
Sunrise hikes, beautiful clouds, fun cacti, unfortunate circumstances, fushia and bromeliads, hermit crabs, photo shoots, spiky plants, crazy buttress roots, rainbows!! Sugar apple, eating out, cute housemates, running buddies, squad bracelets, chicken purse, sensitive plant, white sand beaches, wild snake plants, hot adventure runs, pool time, gooseberry trees, coral rocks, lizards hiding in walls, wild mallow, more beaches, kapok trees, fun ferns, drinking form a coconut, short walks, cacti!! Beautiful orchids, many more plants, ferns in ruins, hibiscus, putting on that sunscreen, passionflowers, scenic views, papaya leaves, more orchids, house views, giant air plants! In the palm of my hand, sunset views, moko jumbie and drinks, view of Saint John, banana quips, boat views, and the first day on the beach.
