Snowdrops
a poem
The first sighting of Galanthus
Emerging from snow
and mud
and rotten leaves
White blooms unblemished
pure and holy
The tiny buds promise
that warmer weather awaits
Though spring may be false
and snow falls again
ice forms in sheets
after early rainstorms
The plant preserves
Using the snow as a blanket
to shelter young leaves
Though not as noticeable as their cousins
The bold yellow daffodils
and briliant tulips
Snowdrops are the strong silent heralds
of rebirth
Spring is near
